You Know Your A Redneck When...

So I had the bright idea this morning to clean out my truck. I cant believe I let it get this bad. I have severe OCD about organization and how things should be and the mess in my truck was seriously getting to me. Once I walked out the door though my idea wasn't such a good one. It was freezing! Being the trooper that I am though I went through with it, it needed done but I only cleaned the inside out. Theres no way in hell I'm washing it, it would have turned into a frosty mess but it does nee it I cant remember the last time I washed it. As I was cleaning out the contents of the cab I was becoming more and more aware that the contents of my truck could tell someone who doesn't know me just about everything about me. I actually started laughing as I continued to pull stuff out. It made me think of Jeff Foxworthy and his "You Might Be A Redneck" lines. So I decided I would come up with my own based on what was in my truck this morning.

You might be a redneck if you get excited about finding the 1/2 rack of Keystone Light you forgot about in your back seat under your hunting bag!

You might be a redneck (girl) if you pull a camo gun case out from under the back seat and it contains a pink rifle

You might be a redneck if the pockets on the back of the drivers seat contain a bass pro shop and cabelas catalog

You might be a redneck if you find .22 rounds in the door of your truck and you leave em there cause you might just need em some time

You might be a redneck (girl) if your steering wheel cover and floor mats are realtree camo with pink accents!!!

You might be a redneck if in the middle of cleaning out your rig you find your Browning knife you tore the house apart the night before opening day looking for

You might be a redneck if 90% off the actual garbage that came out of your truck is empty boxes from buying new knives the night before the opener, empty fishing lure packages, and empty boxes that at one point contained 500 .22 rounds

If it wasn't for the pink stickers on the back window of my truck and the pink accents on my floor mats and steering wheel cover based on what I pulled out of my truck this morning you'd think it was a guys truck....

After the truck I decided to also clean out my purse this morning. Lord all mighty it was just as bad as my truck. And the contents were just as hilarious!

What was in my (camo)purse:
2 different wallets, (why 2 idk) both camo of course!
Inside 1 said wallet which is actually more like a clutch is a camo Browning beer coozie!! Hahaha
Check book (this is normal)
Some receipts (again normal)
Tons of lipglosses (normal again)
Day planner (normal)
Lottery tickets (should prob check those)
Fishing and Hunting Licenses
An empty 30-06 casing (not normal)
The knife I skinned my deer with a few wks ago (def shouldn't be there and idk why it is)
A fishing lure I bought last week and forgot about!!! Score!!!

Alright ladies whats in your purses?

Based on the contents of my truck and my purse eeither I'm not very girly, have a drinking problem (1/2 rack in the truck, coozie in the wallet), an over the top obsession with camo and firearms or Im just a badass. Im going to go with badass!!!

Cheers!

Fish On

I love living in Oregon, we've got it all! Living on the coast is even better! I've got the dunes, river, mountains, and a handful of lakes all in my back yard! I can fish and hunt within minutes of my front door step!!! And this weekend Fall weather was at its finest this weekend! Clear blue sky, sun shining, no wind and the water was calm! I took full advantage of the weekend and went fishing Saturday and Sunday morning. There's something very peaceful about being out on the lake just before sun up with the water smooth as glass and the birds chirping and an occasional frog croaking! Sun up and it was fish on! Weekend tally for myself 4 salmon landed, 1 lost, 2 trout, 2 large mouth bass and a perch! The boyfriend went out 3 days this weekend, lucky sob has 3 day weekends. He landed somewhere around 10 salmon, a couple of trout, perch and a large mouth. Mini me went out yesterday with us and she reeled in a large mouth for me then she hooked into her own trout and hooked into her first salmon, she lost it right at the boat. She was so bummed. shes wanted to catch a salmon so bad. We didn't let her salmon fish on the river this year it was just to hard. We figured when they moved into the lake we could get her one, so when she heard he had caught some Friday she told him to knock it off and leave some for her. She cracks me up. She was less than pleased when I went Saturday while she hung out with grandma and found out I had caught some. So Sunday morning it was up long before sunrise to beat the crowds to the boat launch. Getting the little one up that early when its the weekend is not always an easy task but when you say it's fishing time she flies out of bed with energy I wish I could posses even after 3 cups of coffee.

I was excited when we got to the boat ramp and there was only one other person there, Saturday was a completely different story, it was insane, there was no parking left you had to find and make your own spot along the side of the road. It soon became apparent why, there was a bass tournament going on, the lake was packed. It was almost like fishing on the river with all the "flat landers" people from the valley with their big expensive boats who have no common courtesy and think they own the river. They are such a**holes! I don't know how many times I have watched them just plow through and cut peoples lines. HELLO there's a whole other side of the river for you to motor back up AWAY from all the rest of us still trolling down. Ugh, I could rant on and on about how I feel about "flat landers" and the way the fish the river. The bass boys really pissed me and the beau off Saturday. They apparently have no respect or know what common courtesy is either! Oh wait that's right cause their "flat landers" too. We along with quiet a few others would be fishing in one of the arms of the lake and it was fish on! They'd be biting left and right, someone was usually landing a fish that was until a bass boat would come flying up into the cove wide open and scare everything off. It'd take an hour or so before anything would bite again and just as the action started back up again here comes another damn "flat lander".  I'll get off my soap box now.

Sunday was great, no bass fisherman, the water was calm, it was still dark when we put in, and it was blue sky and sunshine once the sun rose. Fish were biting at sun up!  It was great getting in good fishing with my loves! I love watching her fish and the excitement she has for it! When she hooked into the her 1st fish she was so excited she started reeling and reeling and when she got it in and realized it was a trout she was still just as happy as when it bite and she thought she might have a salmon. She unhooked it and threw it back, put her line back in and within a few minutes had another fish on. It gave her a bigger fight then the last so we got excited realizing she had a salmon on, she fought it and got it up to the boat when it popped off the hook. She was bummed she didn't get it in but still stoked she had one on. So she set the line back out and said she wad going to catch it again. Some time went by and nothing, then I hooked into a fish got it in and it was a salmon. She wasn't pleased. She is convinced that it was the salmon she had lost earlier and wasn't happy I caught it. Ooops. She hates loosing, and she hates being out fished. It got to the point when I was with her dad they'd leave me at home and go fishing because they'd never catch anything and Id have fish after fish on!!! I've got quiet the competitor on my hands, I hate to see what happens when she gets into sports and looses. Lord help me.

Early morning out on the lake! And just behind the fog bank and over that ridge is where I got my deer this year!
Fishing at 7am like its nothing!
Mini me and a large mouth!
Proud of her trout!
Perfect Fall afternoon on the lake!

I Love Surfing

Now that it's Fall things slow down drastically at work. Tourist season is OVER. Thank the Lord! I have a love hate relationship with tourist season, I love it because it's how this small town survives through the winter, but I hate it because our sleepy little town gets inhabited by rude, inconsiderate, a--holes for 4 months out of the year and makes my summers a little less enjoyable. Anyways like I said things slow down drastically so it's gives me lots of down time. Which means more time to discover fun new things on sites like Etsy and Pinterest, as well as discover fun new blogs! I found lots of cool (or so I think they are) new things today! Not only do I like them just because, but a few of them will work with one of my Halloween costumes!! And even when Halloween is over there is a good chance,  90% chance actually, that I will use them often! And so for todays discoveries:

It's cute, it's PBR, and well I just love it! Check it out HERE
Love, Love, Love this tee! You can find it and other cool things HERE
It screams girly and redneck all at the same time!!!!! See it and more HERE

Out Of The Fog

I have no idea how in the hell I could have forgotten about last Thursday night. It was EPIC!!!!! It was girls night in Eugene to see Randy Rogers Band (i <3 them, I <3 Texas Country music in general) Justin Moore (yummy) and my favorite female country music artist MIRANDA LAMBERT!!!!! It was a blast! Not only is RRB an awesome group, they are just as good live as they are recorded which is always a plus. Justin Moore, where do I even begin. He is an amazing performer, and worked the stage like no other. Not to mention he had a butt every single girl in that arena was swooning over! My favorite part of his performance though was when he performed Backwoods and brought out a Camouflage guitar!!!! At that point I wanted to tackle him steal the guitar and grab his butt! But better judgement told me not such a good idea. Bummer. Miranda Lamberts' performance was one of the best ones I have seen to date and I have been to a bunch of concerts. 1st off her style I am completely envious, I want her "Weekend Warrior" shirt, hell her whole ensemble that night I would kill for! Then there was her performance, she rocked it! She owned that arena! She even gave us a bonus performance. PISTOL ANNIES (insert insane beer induced good buzzed screaming like a little girl here (note: little girls should never have a buzzed induced scream, this is just to emphasize me excitement)). I love the Annies!!!! I am not a fan of girl bands in the least but they defy the typical girl band persona, these girls are badasses! I was stoked when they performed "Hell on Heels" because well it's the first song they released and its a good one but when they performed my 2 favorites "Hunters Wife" and "Takin Pills" I was happier then a tornado in a trailer park! I don't have a single complaint even if a Coors Light was $6.50, and you bet your butts I consumed em none the less. It was a great night!!!!
Randy Rogers Band
Yeah you know you want to grab it too!!!

The bad ass camo guitar!
Pistol Annies!!!!

My favorite pic I captured of the night!
 My girl for life!!!!!

One of the many things i bought that night and of course had to rock it at the show!
I had seen this and the other shirt I bought at  Junk Gypsy before and loved them but they were always out of my size when I went to order :( Glad I finally got my hands on em though!!!

Here's to over priced cheap beer and sailors mouths!

Manic Monday

For once I am in an uninspirational mood. Im on my second double mocha and am still draggin' ass. I guess this is what happens when you have a mellow weekend where nothing exciting happens. Did a little fishing on the river last night but no fish. :( So since Im in a rut, all your getting is some pictures that have made me giggle just a little today.
This didnt make me giggle it just made me drool in envy. I want this badly!!! I found it HERE. Christmas is almost here (hint hint)

This photo inspired one of my 2 halloween costumes, youll see the end result the day after Halloween!! It'll be awesome!

Hahaha so true! I cant wait to be old and say crap like this and get away with it

People have to much time on their hands but im glad they do because this cracks me up! I think I came across it on Etsy or something like that and it had some ridiculous price associated with it other wise I probaly would have bought it.

Amen!

John Deere

So as I spend my down time at work today perusing through pinterest I decided to do a search for John Deere on there. Like Camouflage and Mason Jars I have an over the top obsession with John Deere. At one point my entire kitchen was in John Deere!!! I'm talking plates, bowels, cups, silverware, serving platters, towels, pot holders, canisters, even cake pans! The walls had tin signs, the shelves had novelty items. It was every where! Well a few years ago in the middle of a move I decided or rather thought I had out grown my John Deere phase and put it all on Craigslist. I thought I was the only one that obsessed boy was I wrong. I got a ton of hits and it became a bidding war much like ebay. I got a good price out of it all which gave me more then enough to choose a new theme for the kitchen. This time around I went with red and cream colored items. I bought a ton of the red colored Paula Deen kitchen items including the pots and pans which I can not say enough good things about! Im just going to add I am also in love with all things Paula Deen. I have gallon sized Mason Jars as canisters and Texas start accents everywhere. Here I am yet again getting bored with it and thinking I want my John Deere kitchen back, I have to admit since I parted with my massive collection (which when I packed it all up and took it to the buyer was in 3 big ol Rubber Maid containers) I have missed it. I think its time to bring it back!!! While I have yet to see J.D kitchen stuff on pinterest I found one object in particular that I would kill for. Not only is it J.D. but its pink and I mean PINK!!!!!!
How freaking badass is this???? It has now made my list of things I will build/restore in my life time. I think it just took the #1 spot actually which for years has been held by a late 1970's Ford Highboy! Ever since I was a little girl and my grandpa had one I have wanted one. I although want one much bigger and badder then my grandpas. I'm talking 1 ton running gear, monster lift,  big ol boggers, and a  514 stroker in it.. I want a badass mudder basically!

I also came across this
I think I just found my new Halloween Costume! Painted pink of course!! You all probably think I'm joking but I seriously am contemplating it!

And then there were these:
Totally off subject of J.D but dead on with the pink!

Totally wouldn't go with a J.D themed kitchen but I want it! But not as much as I want this
How awe-inspiring is this? I was in seventh heaven when I saw this beauty!

For the love of J.D and Pink!

Titleless

So yesterday I blogged about the dinner I threw together in my badass camo crockpot. I love that thing like it was my kid! I know I'm ridiculous but come on now its awesomeness is well just that awesome! I mean really who doesn't want one for them selves? It will cook you a complete dinner with little effort on your part and its my favorite color, Camouflage. That's right I said color. Camo becomes a color when it's a big part of your life and its a HUGE part of my life. My daughters room is done in Pink Realtree, mine in Mossy Oak Breakup and the living room is in a transition from country western to hunting lodge so it to will have camo accents! Back to the crockpot. I said if it turned out good I was going to post the recipe and it did turn out really well but I want to make it again and tweak it just a smidgen more to where its PERFECT and then I will post it. But for now you get to see said awesome crockpot!

Wait there's more!

There's this restaurant up in Portland called Fire On The Mountain, it's a hot wings place that I absolutely LOVE and miss dearly. Not only do they have like 12 different versions of wing sauce but they have deep fried desserts! Twinkies and Oreos, I am not a Twinkies fan at all but I did try it once and it is much better then a plain old regular Twinkie, but then again everything seems to be better fried. I always order the Oreos when I go there, the trip isn't complete if I don't. They are AMAZING!!!! Well last night I decided its been a good 8 months since I have been up there and that I wanted to try and recreate them at home. I figured they'd be good but no where as good as F.O.T.M's. WRONG! Watch out F.O.T.M I'll give you a run for your money with my Oreos!!!!I actually think I one upped them, there Halloween style! I'm actually kind of scared that I can make them just as good because I'm going to want to make them all the time and my waistline is not going to like that at all. Good thing it's hunting season and theres one more tag to fill which means tons of miles left to hike up and down the sides of massively steep units!

Tell me they don't look AMAZINGLY AWESOME!

I just realized I used amazing and awesome way to much. Awesome. Maybe I should expand my vocabulary. Then again maybe not.

I will share the recipe with you so you too can enjoy these bad boys! I promise you won't regret it, well maybe your waist will but your tase buds wont!

DEEP FRIED OREOS

2 quarts peanut oil for frying (you can use vegetable but I prefer peanut)
1 large egg
1 cup milk
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 -1 3/4 cup pancake mix
As many Oreos as you'd like. I made 6 with plenty of batter left for at least another 6-10

Directions

  1. Heat oil in deep-fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Whisk together the egg, milk, and 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil in a bowl until smooth. Stir in 1 1/2 C of the pancake mix until no dry lumps remain. You want to make sure your batter is thick but not to thick, you want it to coat the cookie completely to form a nice outer shell. If needed slowly add in the remaining 1/4 C mix. Dip the cookies into the batter one at a time, and carefully place into the hot frying oil. Fry only 4 or 5 at a time to avoid overcrowding the deep fryer. Cook until golden brown, about a minute and a half to 2 minutes. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Transfer to clean plate dust with powdered sugar and ENJOY!!

Storm Season Is Here

One thing I absolutely love about living in Oregon is the fall storms we get. They can be pretty wicked! The first official storm of the season came over night and waking up to the wind and rain this morning was actually peaceful to me. I wanted so badly just to stay in bed and listen to it blow, unfortunately duty called and that meant getting out of bed at the wonderful time of 5:30 a.m. When summer reached to an end and school season had returned I was dreading the 5:30 mornings that came with it. It was so nice to sleep in a few extra hours during the summer, it was almost like I was back in school. Unfortunately it's not me, (I didn't time warp back but how cool would it be if I could) it's my mini me. She started the 1st grade this year and so far is still loving it! I believe a good education is vital, hence why we get up so damn early to get ready for school. I chose to send her to a school 35 miles away because of their academics. If I could afford the commute I would up and move to Elkton in a heart beat. The town is so tiny but the members in the community are amazing and everyone gets involved with the school and its going ons! Amazingly I don't have to commute there at all unless I want to. They are a charter school so they have kids that come from all over and there are enough kids between Elkton and Reedsport that there is a bus that comes to town at 6:40 am and brings them home at 4:45 pm. Not only is she getting a great education (did I mention shes at a 2nd grade reading level) but it works great with my schedule. She doesn't always ride the bus either, my neighbor whom is also a close family friend is a teacher up there so she takes her and brings her home for me most days. She has come out of her shell so much since I transferred her up to Elkton and I have been so pleased with how much she has grown I hope to be able to send her there until she graduates and if for some reason they ever change their boundaries I WILL move just so she can still attend.

I love how I initially started blogging with the idea of storms, fall, and comfort food and got side tracked into going on and on about Keelie's school. This however is nothing unusual for me I will start a conversation/letter and talk about 10 million other things before finishing what I originally started to say. I have dozens of "ooooh look something shiny" moments in a single day, keeps my life interesting I think. So back on to what I initially set out to blog about. I was uber excited about the weather this morning and decided it called for soup for dinner. I first set out to make clam chowder but realized all the clams we had dug over the summer were frozen as a brick so I decided I will make that this weekend, my next idea was venison stew!!! Ive already eaten a good portion of my deer so why not stick with it and make some stew! I haven't had venison stew since I was a little kid at my grandparents house. Which reminds me forget using a recipe out of a book I'm calling grandma! I'm glad now that the venison too was frozen because I want my grandmas recipe!!! Comfort food with a dash of nostalgia! Then came idea # 3. Chicken and Dumplings. My mother makes the best ever and so I picked up the telephone and dialed her up, unfortunately for me she was sleeping. I brought her home from the hospital this weekend and she is still working on recovering from her whole ordeal which could be a book in its own. I decided my mom is one of the best cooks ever and has even worked as a chef in a 5 star restaurant and shes been self taught no schooling, nothing, just trial and error. I hardly ever see that women use a measuring cup either, it baffles me how she can make things over and over again and its always just as good if not better and never use the same measurements. Anyways back to what i was trying to get at, since I'm her off spring I'm hoping the cooking skill is in the genetics! I already know I can bake up a storm, I love baking and am awesome at it! Just saying! I decided to be like my mom and just throw some things together! So as we speak I've got chicken and not yet the dumplings (that will happen when I'm finally home) cooking in my awesome camo crockpot at home! If all goes well and it turns out as good as I am thinking it will I will post the recipe. If it takes like hell I am taking no claim to it, the garbage disposal will get it and "take out" will be waiting before anyone knows i even attempted to create a dinner!

Oh and one more thing, y'all have to try this!!!! I love anything pumpkin and when I saw this in a magazine at work I had to order it! Pumpkin Pie Liquor!!!!! It is trouble in a bottle!

Even Little Girls Love Camo

So for Keelie's 7th birthday I came up with a few themes for her to choose from. For the last seven years we have gone with what I refer to as "main stream themes", Her 1st birthday was Lilo and Stitch, 2nd - Disney Princess, 3rd - Horses, 4th - Tinkerbell, 5th - Cars (her idea), 6th - Horses (again). This year I decided to step outside the box and not choose a theme from the party aisle of a local big box store. I wanted to create it all myself! So I compiled a list of ideas that I thought would be cute yet still be who she is. The list consisted of a ladybug theme, a cowgirl theme, which, after a few days I removed since we had done horses twice already it was to similar. There was also a candy bar theme, John Deere theme and a camo theme. She chose camo. I was super excited for this because I have a slight, OK major obsession with camouflage. The only other theme she could have chose that would have made me just as happy would have been John Deere, another obsession of mine! The theme was chosen and thus started my creative work. Seeing as how this is a girls party we had to add a girly touch to it and in came the PINK!

I made all sorts of things!!!! The invites, cupcake toppers, a gift table sign, and a shooting range sign. Originally the plan was to have  a shooting range with marshmallow guns but the guns i ordered ended up sucking royally. Piece of advice DON'T order the Marshmallow Popper it was a major let down. So plan B. I went to Cabela's and got a new wii game and set up the "shooting range" on the T.V. I made all the cupcakes and the cake myself and I wish now I would have taken pictures of the insides of them because I marbled them in chocolate and pink, they were super cute! I ordered a camouflage edible image from Fun Cakes on Etsy and wrapped it around the side of the cake I made and then topped it with pink sprinkles. I found Mossy Oak Camouflage cups, napkins and balloons Here, and bought some pink plates, cups and table cloths at Walmart. I had my boyfriends dad who thankfully is a logger cut me up some rounds to put things on for an outdoorsy effect! The party was a huge hit and Keelie LOVED it!!! It makes me so happy she's so much like me!

Me And Agendas Just Dont Fly

So I don't even know how many times I have said "oh I'll blog these days" or "I'll blog x amount of times in a week" HA well as we can all see that just doesn't ever happen now does it. So guess what? I'll just blog when ever I damn well feel like it, a.k.a when I have free time which is just about NEVER. I have so many things to blog about so I may just end up blogging quiet a bit this week. I say that now guess we will see if it really happens. But today, today is definitely a good day to blog because I am so excited about how my weekend went.

Lets start with this, Ive always been into hunting, I grew up in a family of mostly men so hunting, fishing, and camping was just a way of life. I have been on numerous hunting and scouting trips as a young child with my grandparents and uncles, kind of phased out of it in middle school and then back into it in high school dating guys who hunted but I had never had my own license and tag to hunt. That is until last year when I went out and got my license and deer tag. Unfortunately I got extremely sick during the season and didn't get much hunting in so I ended the season without a deer. Bummer.

This year is an entirely different story! Rifle season started this weekend and I was beyond excited! Hunting season is the only time of year I am OK and actually excited about getting up at 4 in the morning! I had been asking my boyfriend for days what time we were going to be leaving Saturday (opening day) morning and he kept telling me "early" or "when its dark" once he said "3" . Well Friday night he ended up falling asleep on the couch while we watched a movie and we hadn't discussed the game plan for the next morning so I took it upon myself to make the plans! I very much liked this as I'm kind of a control freak but Ive never let him on to this I find away to make him think hes in control so he keeps his pride but really its me. Haha. So I decided 3 am just wasn't going to happen I moved it to 4:00 a.m instead. Since he was asleep and I was to excited to go to bed at that moment I decided to paint my nails. I know I know, why in the world would I paint my nails before a hunt. Because I am a girl thats why. And because I thought that if I painted them blaze orange it might bring me some good luck! So I painted them and then crawled into bed for the night. My alarm went off and the 1st thing that went through my head was screw this I'm going back to sleep. Then my inner child kicked in and said get up get up its opening day! I literally flew out of bed pumped with energy I didn't even know I was capable of, I was oblivious to the fact he never even made it off the couch. I was dressed and ready to go when I finally realized he was still asleep. This was not okay. I went out and woke him up and this is the conversation that ensued.

Him: "Why are you waking me up at 4 in the morning"

Me: "Because you said we were getting up at 3 and you fell asleep last night but I decided 4 sounded better so I let you sleep in"

Him: "I was joking, it doesn't get light for like 3 more hours, wake me up at 7"

ME: "You've got to be kidding me"

Him: (chuckles)

Me: "You shouldn't tell me things unless your serious when it concerns something I'm excited about, you brought this on yourself"

I then roll my eyes at him, head back down the hallway and flop onto the bed. I am deeply disappointed at this very moment that he is not getting up and is no where near as excited as I am. A few minutes later I hear him get up and moving around and start getting ready. At this point my inner child is screaming with joy again and I probably would have started jumping up and down on my bed if I knew it wouldn't break, its almost time to retire the poor thing.

We finally left the house about 4:15 and just as I pull out of the driveway there is a Doe and 2 Fawns at the end of the road. My immediate thought was "oh great this is going to be just like last year where I see them all over in the neighbor hood and back yard but don't see a single one in the woods" then it turned into "Or maybe this is a good sign, 3 is one of my lucky numbers". We head to 7-11 since its the only thing open in our podunk town at this time of the day and get our coffee. I ended up buy 3 things and the total came to $7.77. I was like you've got to be kidding me, maybe this will be my lucky day after all! My boyfriend quickly bursts that bubble and tells me its bad luck i should just quit while I'm ahead (aka alive) and go back home. (It's a good thing I love him as much as I do and that I fully appreciate and understand his messed up sense of humor other wise it's him I'd be worried about and not the deer I'm after). I refuse to let him bring my good mood down and we head for the hills.

We got to our desired area about 5:30 and had to wait about and hour and 15 until dawn came so we could start the hike in. When day light broke we hoped out of the truck and behind the locked gate we went. We hiked up the old logging road about a 1/2 mile and came up on a unit that would have been PERFECT to get a buck in. It would have been a straight hike down the unit to the road with it, even though I was having a pretty good morning my luck isn't that good. We hiked about another 1/4 mile and glassed over another unit, still nothing so we continued on about a mile or so glassed over that unit and nothing. We could however see across to another unit on the other side of the lake and someone had taken down a buck. It was at this point and after hearing several shots fired through out the morning I was getting bummed. We watched them for a bit and then the bf said "were not gonna get a deer sitting here watching them" so we turned around and headed back the way we came since we'd reached the end of that road. We got back to where it forked and went uphill some more and probably another mile or so into the woods when we found another unit. We started glassing it and not 30 seconds into it he spotted a buck. Lets just say it wasn't in the best place. He was about 3/4 of the way down the ridge across from us curled up in a ball a lot like his dog Toby does with his head by his ass. Not really the best position for a good shot. We watched him for a few minutes then my guy decided to go down the ridge we were on top of and down into the brush to try and get a better look at him and make sure he was at least a legal buck and to maybe scare him a bit and get him to stand up for a good shot. As hes going down the unit I get myself comfortable and kept my scope on him to make sure I never lost sight of him and if he decided to run id be ready to shoot. My guys down in the brush moving from spot to spot even throwing things at him and with all the yelling back and forth to each other he never spooked unfortunately. He was having a tough time getting a good view of his antlers so I stopped watching through my scope and pulled out my binoculars and focused in on him. Sure enough he was a forked horn. I yelled down to him "I see forks, and I think Ive got a decent shot, can we get this over with" Apparently he didn't hear the forks part because he yelled back "I need to make sure hes legal" I think to myself did i not just say i saw forks, whatever I'll just wait til he says go. So another 30 minutes or so go by and I am no longer comfortable I am cramping and shaking and ready to just shoot but he's down in the brush some where and I'm not exactly sure where at that exact moment so I cant. Finally he says "Let me know when your ready" I couldn't believe he just said that Ive only been ready for how long but whatever. I yelled back I was ready, took in a deep breath lined up my shot and fired. Missed. Damn It. He never even flinched double damn it. Jacked another round into the chamber lined up and fired. Nailed him!!! He gets up you can see hes having problems and starts to try and run its at that moment I go to jack another round in and realize SHIT i forgot to reload after practice shooting and I'm out. SHIT. All I can think is please stop trying to get away. Thank god Jimmy was ready and when he realized that I wasn't going to shoot again shot and got him right in the jaw which was enough to keep him from running anymore and he just tumbled down the unit. GAME OVER! Well for the deer at least. Now came the task of getting him out of the bottom of a unit.

I had to walk about a 1/2 mile to get to the ridge that he and the deer were at the bottom of. And then the non fun part started, I had to make my way down this steep slippery super brushy ridge to get to my animal and boyfriend. It took me a little bit because I am one of the last coordinated people I know. When I got there I was so stoked! I had actually killed a deer! And it was a 3 (barely) by fork, not the biggest deer but a good one for my 1st none the less!!!! It was quiet obvious there was no way I was going to get this thing out of there and it was up to my guy. So he gutted most of it and then I packed his rifle, knife and binos out for him and helped him load the deer on his back and we started the trek out. We had to stop a few times because it was a brutal steep slippery at times nothing to hold onto trek straight up. We or rather he finally got it out of the unit and the hardest part was over. Now for the few mile trek back that wouldn't have been so bad but there were still some hills to take on but none near as bad as the one we had just conquered. After about 3 hours after the kill went down we made it back to the truck with the buck in tow!

We headed for his parents house where we hung it, gutted what was left of it skinned it and quartered it and now it just sits in the fridge curing for a few days and we this coming weekend the jerky making with start!

In the field after I finally made it down the ridge!!!! Blaze Orange nails and all

Here it is Monday and I am still more excited then a kid on Christmas morning waiting to open their gifts. I can't wait for elk season next month! Even though he said he wants no part in packing an elk after this ordeal lol! I guess that's what you have big burly uncles for!!!
